Location
Since 2004 the Val d'Orcia is part of the Italian UNESCO heritage and the Municipality of Castiglione d'Orcia is one of the fundamental elements of its landscape.

The Val d'Orcia is an exceptional example of the way the landscape was re-written during the Renaissance to represent the ideals of the good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture.

The landscape of the Val d'Orcia was celebrated by painters from the Scuola Senese, which flourished during the Renaissance. Images of the Val d'Orcia, and particularly the descriptions of landscapes where people are depicted as living in harmony with nature, have become icons of the Renaissance and have profoundly influenced the development of the philosophy of the landscape.

These are the facts which justified the recognition of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage.
