San Gregorio, Via Amerigo Vespucci , Patù, Salento - Apulia

Realpoint Property  sales an independent, sea view, stone Villa in the Bay of San Gregorio. The entire Villa is on the ground floor, with three uncovered sides and garden in front and behind it.

The external walls of the little Villa are covered in stone. Like the typical houses of Salento. It covers an area of 80 square meters, while the open space measures 150.The villa is composed by a  large living room, kitchen and bathroom overlooking the garden, covered by a pergola and equipped with barbecue and two bedrooms.

The villa is located in the enchanting Bay of San Gregorio, from whose sea is only 100 meters. It is a very impressive place, which still retains the remains of an ancient port of the Messapian-Roman era. Nearby there are all the commercial activities, such as restaurants, bars and market. In summer this bay is frequented by tourists looking for a quiet and private place, and by lovers who sail these waters on their Yachts.

At 700 meters away, in a southerly direction, we find the sandy beach of Felloniche, while at 4 km going north, we find the beach of Torre Vado and Pescoluse, with its golden sand and crystal clear waters. Not surprisingly, the resort has been awarded the BLUE FLAG for several years, as the cleanest sea, and with the GREEN FLAG, as a sea suitable for families with children and pets.

In nearby Patù, 4 km, you can admire the old town and the famous Centopietre. It is a characteristic rectangular construction made up of one hundred large square tufaceous blocks. Located exactly in front of the main entrance of the church of San Giovanni Battista di Patù. In 1873 it was declared a second-class National Monument.

The Centopietre is a monument of the ninth century AD, made, however, with monoliths of the ancient city of Vereto. That is, with material of this ancient Messapian city. At the origin the Centopietre was a tomb without access, a funeral monument. In fact, it was probably built to accommodate the mortal remains of General Geminiano, who died on June 24, 877, during a violent battle against the Saracens who wanted at all costs to conquer the Cape S. Maria di Leuca and then move to the West. A few centuries later, between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the tomb was transformed into a Christian thémenos, a place of prayer and meditation. To these same centuries go back the frescoes in Byzantine style executed on the inner west wall and of which now remain only pale traces.
